Simone Garreau is the co-founder and CEO of Prism Layer. She has spent her career launching and scaling enterprise risk programs for some of the fastest-growing financial products in the world: Western Union, Remitly, Robinhood, and Block, spanning Cash App, Square, and Afterpay.
She built that perspective in high-stakes, unconventional environments. She began her career as a founding member of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s malaria eradication team, contributed to reimagining strategy for the UN Millennium Development Goals, and worked in intelligence across South and Central America, where she taught kidnap-and-ransom negotiation.
Her move into finance began at Western Union, where she focused on cash movement through conflict zones and high-risk corridors such as Syria, Afghanistan, and the US southwest border. She then led strategic risk at Robinhood through the GameStop surge and the company’s IPO. At Block, she became the company’s first Head of Enterprise Risk, building the global program from the ground up and establishing regulated frameworks across five countries and products spanning consumer payments, lending, and bitcoin as everyday money.
Prism Layer was born from the problem she met in every one of those seats: consequential calls whose evidence, reasoning, ownership, and review live in scattered places on slow timelines. She leads the company on the conviction that risk work should move the business.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies and Women’s Studies from George Washington University and a Master’s in Global Security and Intelligence from Johns Hopkins University.
